Be the light amongst the darkness
As I sit down to write this holiday newsletter, we’re culminating the celebration of Chanukah. It has me thinking how the two relate; but first allow me a quick moment to share the highlights of what Chanukah is.
Chanukah is a holiday in the celebration of a miracle: the miracle of light.
Yes, it’s also about celebrating a victory over oppression; one of the many in our long history. It was a holiday that allowed all varieties of Jews to unite in order to focus on liberation and our religious freedom.
The eight day celebration commemorates the miracle of the oil (the light) in the temple, and NOT the military victory over our oppressors. We don’t glorify war.
Having shared a bit about this holiday, it seems fitting for me to share about our collective need to fight for the light amongst a lot of craziness, chaos and darkness in the world we live in now.
We need to be the light and fight for it, on whatever level we can. Whether it be on a personal level, where we’re struggling with an aspect of our life, or a global one, where injustices are happening.
Every day I practice fighting for the light within me, and for those around me in any way I can; including and especially within my work. I’ve always fought for the light for my friends, family and clients, regardless of my personal situation.
These days, its not always so clear to see what requires fighting for. However, it’s important to do our homework to see who needs protection and who needs calling out.
I was taught well this idea of knowing what we’re fighting for, versus what we’re fighting against. Sometimes it’s not so easy to see the difference, however It’s an extremely valuable concept to keep in mind within all aspects of our lives.
I want to wish everyone a healthy holiday season. Whether you’re going through health issues, financial stress, or battling through emotional wounds, familial problems or anything else, I’m personally wishing you the miracle you need to help you find your way through it.
