Let food be thy medicine

When they say, let food be thy medicine, & medicine be thy food”, that also means you should stop thinking about how food needs to always taste good.

As you get older, you “might” be more apt to understand this, I did.

Don’t get me wrong, I love food. But I also like the function of my mind & body, more.

As we age, our bodies & minds have more needs.

Gone are the days where I can play sports without the need of much sustenance or hydration.

Now, it’s like, did I warm up, stretch, properly hydrate, have a protein bar or something in my stomach?

Here’s the thing: we take the “necessary” prescription medicine, without question or complaints, when we’re in pain, & yet we don’t practice the same application when it comes to the foods we eat.

We don’t think of our food as medicine, we only think of it as enjoyment & pleasure.

If our minds & bodies function better with certain foods, then why don’t we eat to improve function, rather than only focusing on taste?

We take medicine because of fear or pain that our condition will worsen, but we won’t apply the same theory toward our diet.

That quote above should be thought about more deeply & taken into stronger consideration.

Our focus should be placed more on the function of our minds & bodies, & the proper fuel it needs to function, rather than solely on our taste buds.

Stop looking to replace an optimal diet with an optimal medicine regiment. Taking medicine should be a last resort, when a healthy diet & lifestyle change, doesn’t work.
