Bad habits
I’ve been thinking about habits lately. Specifically, replacing the ones that don’t serve my commitments & best self, with the ones that do (like my morning plunges in the cold pool).
What old habits are you wanting to trade in for healthier ones?
When you’re seeking to change or cut out an unwanted habit that you have, you must replace it with a newer healthier one. Just attempting to cut something out won’t work.
For instance: if you normally go to the gym early in the morning, but you hurt your back & took a break, but now you haven’t gone back, even though your pain is better.
This is a perfect example, where once going to the gym at a specific time and drinking that nutritious shake on the way to work was the habit, and it has now been replaced with sleeping in, scrolling social media, watching the morning news, going to Dunkin’ Donuts before work.
The second thing you must know when it comes to changing your habits is you must be clear about what you’re committed to vs. what you’re merely interested in; they aren’t the same thing.
A big reason why you’re having trouble replacing old habits with newer ones is that you’re not committed to it … you’re merely interested in it.
Committed means you do something regardless of how you feel, while merely interested is when you do something when it suits you.
Regardless of your puffed out chest & magnificent tantrums professing your commitment to something, the proof lies in the actions you’re taking or not.
Lastly, if you find yourself committed to something, but not taking actions toward that thing, it might be because you have unhealed trauma, fear & shame blocking you.
These hidden components stand in the way of fulfilling your desires, & it’s not easy working through those things along the path.
If you find yourself in need, & you’re committed to receiving help in this specific way, I’d be happy to help. My work has been something that has helped me through many of the same things along my path, & I’m sure it could help you too. DM me if you’ve got questions.
