Married, no kids
I never considered not having a family, not even once throughout my entire life. And yet, here Lindsay & I are, consciously not having kids, and not feeling like we’re missing out.
For the last 20 years, I was recreating myself and my work. I was healing my own personal issues and traumas, and developing new skills in my craft. While doing all of this, I was clear…
One doesn’t necessarily get us the other
Despite what we might not like to think, we can’t solve an emotional issue with a physical solution, regardless of what it is.
For instance: We may have a coach to help us reach our fitness or financial goals, but this doesn’t mean they’re helping us heal or transform our emotional self.
Trauma lives on
I know from experience, both my own & working with clients over the years, that our unhealed traumas continue to live within us, long after the events have passed.
Traumas of our past live and breathe within our nervous systems because of the fear & shame we’ve attached to them.
Having a voice
Not sure you read my posts on social media or email newsletters; however, if you do, thank you, and here’s why I write them.
I mostly practice my writing purely as a skill I’m constantly developing and in finding my writing voice within it. I know aspects of it, but I haven’t totally locked into it yet.
I surrender
The last three eyears have been challenging, yet amazing, as I’ve had to stare down some feral animals in the form of my emotional make-up.
We’re all presented with lessons and signs that we either follow or ignore, and that’s certainly been the case for me.
Why it’s important to trust your coach
If we’re going to move past our limitations, push through our fears, illuminate our issues, heal our past trauma, soothe our body pain, challenge what we think is the truth & go where we didn’t know was possible, we must develop trust with our coaches.
Seminars, ceremonies, workshops & trenches of life
When I was around 29, I found myself in a self-help seminar at the pestering of a friend. He professed it would bestow many benefits onto me.
He wasn’t totally wrong. As it turned out, soon after that seminar, I serendipitously met my first teacher, who helped shape the work that I do today.
Reintroduction
For those of you that are new to me, allow me introduce myself & thank you for the follow.
My work doesn’t fit into a neat box. It’s not something thats common but for some it can scratch an itch that’s been nagging them for a long time despite other interventions.
The road less traveled
For those of you who seek to take full responsibility for their lives, you’re on the road less traveled.
Most people prefer to not want to take responsibility in some way. They prefer to see themselves as being victimized by someone or something.
What’s an adjustment
If defined by Webster, it would say that it’s “an alteration or movement made to achieve a desired fit, appearance or result.”
Within my work, this definition certainly fits.
Ayahuasca?
If you have any sort of connection with the current pulse of popular treatments in the wellness/coaching world, you’re well aware of Ayahuasca. For those that don’t know, it’s a plant based psychedelic that helps people connect with deeper aspects of their bodies & psyche. I’ve not done it myself, but I’ve had numerous clients, friends & colleagues take part.
Boys to Men
Instead of resolutions, every new year I have a theme. My theme for last year was to question & consider what it means to be a man.
It’s not that I’ve struggled with this question, but it became appropriate after getting engaged & heading into marriage.
No body, no transformation
If you’re someone who’s committed to transforming an aspect of your life, you must consider the body when doing it.
Even if someone is seeing a coach or therapist, people can often have difficulty making connections with certain feelings & emotions, or in connecting with many difficult experiences from their past.
Obsessive vs. Persistent
Do not confuse these two, as they’re entirely different things.
I’m a very persistent person & a Taurus through & through; I’m fiercely loyal, often times stubborn & yet very persistent with the things I want to bring to fruition …
Face it
I’ve had some difficult familial stuff going on lately. On a particularly challenging day, I was feeling the dread of showing up, but maintained perspective of how vital it is to do it anyway. For all those concerned, not to worry, it’s all gonna be fine.
But it had me thinking about many other difficult moments in my past, where it’s been vital to my development, both personally & professionally, to be able to show up & communicate.
Investigate the way you’re BEING…
Often times, by shifting the way you’re BEING, things can change dramatically for you, without necessarily DOING anything new. Find people, including a coach or therapist, who have laser sharp feedback, so you can hear things about yourself that you never considered.
Bad habits
I’ve been thinking about habits lately. Specifically, replacing the ones that don’t serve my commitments & best self, with the ones that do (like my morning plunges in the cold pool).
What old habits are you wanting to trade in for healthier ones?
Accountability vs. Responsibility
Don’t confuse the two.
Read on for a few examples to illustrate the difference.
⚡️Example 1: I’m accountable for my clients feelings in the work we do together, but I’m not responsible for them.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed with everything you need to do?
Are you like me, always feeling like you need to be productive, especially with your work?
For those looking for a few tips on how I navigate these feelings, here you go.
Stop overlooking deep fear & anxiety
Quite often, people are quick to dismiss fear & anxiety, thinking that there must be a more complicated or deeper reason for why they suffer. Sure, there might be other factors involved, however long standing fear & anxiety have a subtle yet insidious & disastrous way of affecting all kinds of functions of the body…
